About IELTS


IELTS is an English test for study, migration or work in developed countries.

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an international standardized test of english language proficiency for non-native english language speakers. This is equally accomplished by the British Assembly, IELTS Australia and Cambridge Assessment English. IELTS was recognized in 1989. IELTS is one of the major english-language tests in the world, rather than others being the TOEFL, TOEIC, and more.

IELTS is known and trusted by individuals and organizations worldwide for its equality, reliability and high-quality standards in exam pattern. IELTS is accepted by most Australian, British, Canadian, New Zealand and USA academic institutions for migrating candidate and this was accepted by various professional administrations across the world.

IELTS is the only Secure English Language Test permitted by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) for visa customers applying both outsides and inside the UK. It also meets requirements for immigration to Australia.



Types of IELTS Tests


TYPES OF IELTS TESTS
There are two types of IELTS test
  • IELTS Academic
  • IELTS General Training

Listening and Speaking are the same for both tests, but the subject matter of the Reading and Writing mechanisms differs conditional on which test you take IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training are designed to shield the full range of talent from non-user to expert candidate. The Academic form is for test takers who want to study at tertiary level in an English-speaking country or seek professional registration. The General Training form is for test takers who want to work, train, study at a secondary school or migrate to an English-speaking country. And the major difference between the Academic and General Training versions is the content, context, and purpose of the jobs. And the reaming is the same in both categories like time allocation, length of the written answer.


The format of the Tests


IELTS have two modules of the examinations.
  • Academic Module
  • General Training Module : There is also a single test offered by the IELTS test partners, called IELTS Life Skills. IELTS Academic is projected for those who want to register in universities and other institutions of higher education and this is recommended to professionals such as medical doctors and nurses who want to study or practice in an English-speaking country for better opportunity. IELTS General Training is proposed for those planning to undertake non-academic training or to gain work experience, or for immigration purposes. IELTS Life Skills is recommended for those who need to prove their English speaking and listening skills at time visa applying. As well as, the same can be used to apply for a family visa who is already settled in in the country.
  • Listening section: 30 minutes and 10 minutes' transfer time
  • Reading section: 60 minutes
  • Writing section: 60 minutes
  • Speaking section: 11–14 minutes
  • the total duration of exam: 2 hours and 45 minutes
THE FORMAT OF THE TESTS

Test format – Reading (Academic & General)


TEST FORMAT READING

IELTS Reading paper has three segments and total texts approximate 2,150-2,750 words. Here will be a variety of question types, such as multiple choice, short-answer questions, identifying information, identifying writer’s opinions, labeling diagrams, completing a summary using words taken from the text and matching information/headings/features in the text/sentence endings. Candidate should be careful when writing down their answers as they will lose marks for incorrect spelling and grammatical error.

Texts in IELTS Academic

  • Three reading texts, which come from books, journals, magazines, newspapers and online source written for non-specialist spectators. As well as, All the topics are of general interest to students at undergraduate or postgraduate standard.
    Texts in IELTS General Training
  • Section 1 - This section contains two or three short texts or several shorter texts, which deal with everyday topics.
  • Section 2 - This section contains two texts, which deal with work. For example, job descriptions, contracts, training materials.
  • Section 3 - This section contains one long text about a topic of general interest. The text is not objective and completely descriptive, longer and more complex than the texts in other sections.

Test format – Writing (Academic & General)


ILETS Writing paper has two tasks to complete within the time given to the candidate. In task 1-test, takers write at least 150 words in almost 20 minutes. In the task, two test takers write at least 250 words in 40 minutes. Test users will be penalized if their answer is too short or does not relate to the topic. Answers should be written in full sentences. And these tasks are differentiated by the Categories of the exam (Academic, General)

IELTS Academic:

  • Task 1:- Needs to describe a graph, table, chart or diagram in their own words.
  • Task 2:- Candidate needs to discuss a point of view, argument or problem. Depending on the task, test takers may be required to present a solution to a problem, present and justify an opinion.

IELTS General Training:

  • Task 1:- Candidate needs to write a letter in response to a given everyday state of affairs
  • Task 2:- Candidate needs to write an essay about a topic of general welfares.
