Aged parents’ visas bring together parents and their children. Only a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen can sponsor their aged parents. Let’s have a look at aged parents visa subclass 804.

To get an aged parents visa you must 

  • Have an eligible child who is a settled Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen
  • Your age must be enough to receive the age pension in Australia
  • You should not apply for or hold a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) (Subclass 870) visa when applying for this visa 

What can you do with this visa?

If you have an aged parents visa then you can stay, work and study in Australia indefinitely. You can also enrol in Australia’s public healthcare scheme, sponsor your family members and later can apply for Australian citizenship if fulfil the requirement. You are eligible to travel to and from Australia for 5 years. On completing 5 years if you further want travel facility then you have to do following things: 

  • You will need to apply for a Resident Return visa. On getting the visa you can re-enter Australia as a permanent resident.
  • You can also consider Australian citizenship. After becoming an Australian citizen, you don’t need any visa to enter Australia. You have to apply for an Australian passport and use it to leave and re-enter Australia.

For how long can you stay with an Aged parents visa?

Aged parent visa is a permanent visa that allows you to stay in Australia indefinitely. For citizenship purposes, your permanent residence starts on the day we grant the visa.

Include family members in your visa application

You can also include your family members in your visa application. Your family members are migrating or not but you are required to include details of all your family members in your application form. You also need to include your partner details in the application whether they are applying for a visa or not.  

The second thing is that your family members must meet the health and character requirements to apply for the visa Aged Parents Visa Subclass 804. Need to meet Australian immigration health and character requirements even for family members who are not coming to Australia. 

Cost

You have to pay embassy fees for your visa as well as an additional charge for every family member who applies with you. You can pay these fees in two instalments. The first instalment has to be paid at the time of visa application. You can pay a second instalment when the embassy will ask you to pay. You also need to pay for other costs for health checks, police certificates and biometrics for each applicant.
