Make an application to Get Accepted to a course

First, you have to submit an admission application with SEVP approved institutes. The application process generally starts around December or January for full-time undergraduate and graduate programs. You will get admission notifications around March and April. 

Receive Form I-20 or DS-2019 From Your institute

After admission, you will receive Form I-20 or DS-2019 via email. It depends on your student category what type of form you will get. You need this form at the time of the visa interview. 

Pay the I-901 SEVIS Fee

Next, you have to pay the I-901 SEVIS Fee. Fees differ for each type of visa including F-1 Visa, M-1 visa and J-1 visa. You can make a payment online using a credit card. The Visa application fee is not included in it. After making payment, don’t forget to take a print out of your confirmation page. You need this for your visa interview. 

Find Your Nearest US Embassy or Consulate

You must find the nearest US embassy or consulate to apply for your international student visa. You can search online to find the nearest US embassies and consulates. 

Complete Form DS-160 Online

Next, you have to complete Form DS-160 online. To complete the process, you need the following items in hand including your passport, photograph, and Form I-20 or DS-2019.  

Schedule Your Visa Interview

Now, you have to schedule your visa interview. You should have to contact your nearest US embassy or consulate. How long you have to wait depends on the embassy. Check the website frequently to know the wait times for your embassy. 

Pay Your Visa Application Fee and attend an interview

Now, pay your visa application fee that is the same regardless of your home country and where you apply. Carry your payment receipt if you pay before your interview. The interview is the main factor that decides whether you get a visa or not. 

After completing the above steps, you will receive your visa to study in the USA. The Embassy will return your passport with your new visa.
